God is Color Neutral

We had an incredible night of worship tonight at Church. Afterwards, as I was scanning the merch table of the artist who had come for the N.O.W., I saw a t-shirt on the table with a tree on it and the phrase "God is Green" across the chest. Hmmm...okay. Now, I understood what the t-shirt meant, but I was definitely foggy on the implications of the meaning.

I have heard entire sermon series from various churches preaching the same message: God calls us to be environmentalists. Biblically speaking, the Bible does state we are the stewards of the earth - WE are the stewards, not God - so I don't think dumping oil in ponds and trash in forests is Godly, but I also don't remember Jesus listing "blessed are those with hybrids, for their carbon emissions are low" in the beatitudes. Is God really concerned about global warming? Seriously, God is preparing to destroy earth as we know it and build a new Kingdom; is our large carbon footprint going to keep Jesus in the air?

I would like to see a t-shirt say, "God is crying out for your soul to turn back to him," maybe we could put a baby on it or something, I don't know. I guess it doesn't have the same ring to it, but I still think God is much more concerned with OUR eternity than the earth's.

Well, I gotta go burn down a forest with a pile of aerosol cans in the back of my Hummer.

Great thoughts (again)! I wonder where all this "God is Green" is really headed?!? It should be interesting! By-the-way...I'd like a ride in your Hummer...about how much does it cost to fill that gas guzzler!!! Are you sure you can afford it with all the new Michigan taxes? :)
