What Price Freedom? [2 of at least 2]

Since I'm off to enjoy a spectacular Thanksgiving with some incredible people (some of which are pictured above) in the windy/frigid city, I thought I would add another part to my "What Price Freedom?" series:

The Risk of Freedom

Freedom requires risk.  The idea is that not only are we working to be free, but we also must risk to truly be free.  There has to be the potential for loss for there to be a potential to gain, and the greater the gain the greater the possible loss. Some might see this view of freedom as narrow, but I believe it broadens the scope of freedom from beyond citizenship and to an heir.

Citizens operate under the freedom of their government, heirs operate under the freedom their father bestows upon them.  The way I see it, God has given us limitless potential through Him, so all humanity, therefore, has limitless freedom though Him.  But, freedom will always have risk attached to it.

Kurt will mock me for using this as an example, but I watched August Rush tonight with some peeps.  Throughout the entire movie, this young boy is attempting to find his parents.  The only way he knows how to do so is to somehow express this rhythm is his soul any way he can in hopes it would lead his parents to him.  So, not knowing if his parents are alive or dead, or if they are in another city, country, or continent, or if they even want him in the first place, this boy faces a choice: risk embarrassment  and constant heartache...or live in oppression. I won't spoil the movie, but I'll end with this: what makes the risk of pain so much worse than the certainty of insignificance?

God took the ultimate risk in making us free.  Since we have the freedom to choose Him, we also have the freedom to deny.  How much love does it take to create something that could never love you, because anything less would diminish real love.  Real love requires freedom, and freedom requires risk.  I believe it is through our untapped freedom that our purpose comes alive.

Be thankful for your freedom in Jesus.

there it is
