Lately I have been feeling quite irregular in my theological flow. I was speaking with a friend the other day about the Emergent Movement. He happens to be teaching a Systematic Theology class so he had a lot of great insights.

Here's my thoughts:
The idea of Emergent is questions. As a Christian I should be getting less answers and more questions, because if I am "acting" like Jesus I would be a little more open minded. In other words, to join the conversations I need to check my absolutes at the door; its what Jesus would do. The whole idea has gotten me a little...backed up.

Here's a question: how can I ever have any sort of faith if I'm not allowed to have any absolutes? It stunts your faith, you almost become a Christian degenerate, unable to contribute truth to anyone searching for answers. Lost people already have questions, they need answers. Jesus isn't a buffet, act like he acts AND believe what he says...you know...in the Bible. I guess the biggest problem I have with the emergent movement is the fact that they are emerging and not really moving. I mean, the reason Christianity seems so exclusive is because it requires such faith to believe that you actually have the answer, it doesn't give you a choice, and I'm perfectly fine with that. The reality of the love of Jesus is what drives me to tell others, not what causes me to consider my options. It forces me to grow, to move forward, to be free. It's probably the same reason those who followed Christ 1800 years ago were willing to be fed to lions proclaiming the name of Jesus. I doubt when they were asked to recant or be a human candle they said, "I know you recognize Caesar as Lord, but Jesus believes in many of the same social justice issues as your Caesar. I think if we collaborate we can come to an agreement on many of our differences."

Just some thoughts from a narrow minded bigot :)
